Larrysha

Larrysha from the United States of America was placed at Maramba clinic in Livingstone in August 2024. This is what she had to say after the volunteer experience. I enjoyed my volunteering experience at Maramba Clinic. Everyone is friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and productive. There are plenty of services offered at the clinic. The staff support one another and make the patients feel comfortable, safe, and attended to. They offer health education workshops for staff, the public, and continue to promote good health and well being in the community. I love it here. Thank you LVVP for this opportunity.

I am Hanne and I already knew after graduating from high school that I wanted to do a year abroad. Together with my friend we came across the German organization which cooperates with the Livingstone Victoria Falls Volunteers in Livingstone, Zambia. LVVP is very multifaceted from health care projects, over environment and education programs. I applied to work in a school. The arrival was very warm welcoming and our mentors showed us everything. The people at school were very open minded and they gave me space to create my own ideas. That worked very well and now I am doing some activities and programs with the kids almost every afternoon. In the mornings I help the kids with reading lessons or assist in class. We were also able to get to know other projects from LVVP and which I found very exciting. The garbage project in particular gave me an idea that we could also collect and sort garbage at the school where l work. I am really enjoying the time here and I am happy for that enriching experience. In addition, l am learning a lot about the culture, the people and the language. The Zambian people are very open and friendly, which makes our experience even more enjoyable.

Amelie, Germany - 2024

My name is Amelie. I come from Germany. l am a volunteer with the Livingstone Victoria Falls Volunteers. I work at the Maramba Clinic and Malota Primary School in Livingstone Zambia. What I love most about my volunteer time at LVVP in Livingstone is definitely the new connections that l have created at my work place and around Livingstone. Through the program I met a lot of inspiring people and made lifelong friendships that l will always cherish. Zambian people are very welcoming and I admire how peaceful the country is! In the health care project I’m learning so much from the knowledge of my professional colleagues and also enjoy the team work during our health community outreaches. Besides, LVVP allows you to be innovative and contribute your own ideas and implement them. Over and above my work l was given space to start a project at Malota School and it’s very enriching for me to work with the children. In case of any challenges the LVVP team is always available to assist and give guidance through their open door policy. I love Zambia and my work here.

‘I want to be able to make a real difference and know that my work has an impact on people's lives’  With this motivation I started my search to an serious and reliable organizations and I found LVVP. I can say that it was the right choice to me because I found exactly what I was looking for. From the moment of arrival I felt welcome and taken care of. LVVP works with several partners whom are all focused on the wellbeing of the community and the way people were open to what I came to contribute impressed me. I facilitated a training on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights to a group of adolescents in a school in a rural area nearby Livingstone. The commitment, eagerness to learn and the way the group participated in the training was amazing. Questions were asked and experiences exchanged. To me the best part was that I have been able to raise awareness about sexual reproductive health and choices because that was my goal, to make an impact! Because the projects are open to opportunities it creates chances for the community but also for you as a volunteer, and what a wonderful feeling that was!
